TENS, which stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, works by the machine sending out weak electronic impulses directly to the muscle cells. You place the TENS plates on the area you want to treat and with this stimulation the muscles start to cramp. The pain is blocked by releasing the body's own pain-relieving hormone called endorphins. The stimulation also causes the blood circulation to start in depth and contributes to the body's self-healing process being activated. TENS works against both sudden and prolonged pain with either low-frequency or high-frequency stimulation that you can choose. The pain relief can last up to a few hours after the end of treatment.

A TENS treatment does not hurt. What you feel is muscle twitching, that it tingles under the skin and that it can get hot in the area you are treating. All of these are positive signs that the treatment is working. Some types of problems that a TENS treatment can alleviate are:
